As Design Lead for UIUC Design Innovation's Strava redesign team, I directed 4 fellow designers, Brooke, Daria, Sara and Allie, through a 10-week end-to-end redesign
Strava's navigation mixed inconsistent jargon, buried its best features behind a paywall, and suffered from information overload across Groups, Feed, and Calendar.
Redesign Strava's core flows to feel personalized and motivating for both new and experienced runners, without losing its social identity.
A semester-long redesign from September 2025 - November 25
Benchmarked Apple Fitness+ and other 4 fitness trackers, then audited Strava screen-by-screen, flagging its paywalled Map and cluttered Calendar as top pain points.
Fielded dual surveys (users & non-users) and 15+ interviews, then built 6 personas including both beginner and an experienced runners to guide design decisions.
Mapped Strava's original user flows and suggested alternative paths and page structure.
Ran weekly critiques of each teammate's wireframes using sticky-note annotations on FigJam to build a cohesive direction.
Designed all Strava screens with a bold color-coded progress tracker, streak calendar, and simplified settings to fix the "information overload" feedback.
Rebuilt the route detail page with Details, Reviews, and Photos tabs, extending the flow to an Apple Watch companion for turn-by-turn cues mid-run.
By taking on this leadership position I learn to delegate tasks that focus on supporting my team, taking into account their individualized goals as UX designers, whether it be learning new prototyping skills in Figma or how to better communicate and prioritize objectives within our weekly meetings.
Let's talk about how I can bring this same impact to your team.
